The Question: Chicken - The Answer: Chicken

Chicken tenders were on the menu tonight for dinner. The conversation was intriguing and deep.

Em: What's inside my chicken?
Me: Chicken.
Em: What's it made of?
Me: Chicken.
Em: Where's it come from?
Me: A chicken.

(Insert cymbal crash here.... or chirping crickets. Your choice! I'm just nice like that.)

Ceiling Fan Inspector

This past week, Sparkles was copping a bit of an attitude. Her dad had to get after her a bit and when asked if she understood why she was in trouble she huffed a huffy breath. She tromped through the living room and produced the most exaggerated eye-rollitude I have ever seen. While trying to stifle my laughter and still sound authoritative, I asked if she had just rolled her eyes at her dad.

(Insert teenage attitude here.)

"No-oooo! I was just... checking out the ceiling... fan....."

Rapunzel!

I'm stealing my husband's Facebook status from Saturday... because I can.  (Well, that and because you'll appreciate the Sparkles Snippet that is included!)
Watching Tangled with Em and she says very seriously "I had no idea that Rapunzel has all the same powers I do."

It's Almost Time for Kindergarten!

I was pulling out some "official paperwork" this evening to take with us to kindergarten screening tomorrow.  I ran across and re-read Em's adoption paperwork and court transcripts from Kazakhstan.  It was VERY sobering.

Our daughter already knows she's adopted and I'll share these papers with her when she's MUCH older if she asks.

However, I'm going to HAVE to be prepared for that moment.  Sometimes the truth hurts.  But, due to the difference in culture and her rough start for the first several months of her life, the court paperwork is painful for THIS mother's heart.  I almost wish I hadn't looked through it this evening.

I'm giving MY daughter some extra tight hugs this evening when I put her to bed.

Heads-Up Tooth Fairy!

Yeah, you heard me... Heads Up Tooth Fairy!   Sparkles just alerted me that tooth #4 has started to loosen up.

Get your wings ready for flight!  It won't be long!

Passing Notes

As we were getting ready to head out the door this morning, we had the following conversation:

Me:  I put a note in your folder for your teacher. Can you make sure she gets it when you get to school?

Em:  Sure.  What's it say?

Me:  It's just asking if you teacher has time to talk tomorrow about kindergarten for next year.

Em:  I thought we were going to try to do Disney World next year...

Skinny Heads and Freedom

So far this weekend, our car ride conversations with Sparkles involved "that boy with the skinny head" (when she couldn't remember someone's name) and when talking about her upcoming birthday she responded... "All I want for my birthday is freedom."

Part 1, she just might get fired for being politically incorrect...

Part 2, she just might earn the Miss America title this year!

Puppy Training

This picture is from about a year and a half ago.  Em and Zoe (Grandma & Papa's dog) are still best buddies.  Emily loves to play tag and run through the house with Zoe close at her heels.

Recently, Grandma and Papa thought it might be wise to work on some obedience training for their rambunctious puppy and this morning Grandma was showing me that after just one session Zoe had already learned to "sit".

As I was getting ready to head out the door to work, Miss Em was shouting "SIT!" and trying to get the same results that Grandma had just demonstrated.  However, when that didn't work I heard, "LICK!"

Does it count as obedience if you just loudly shout what the dog is already doing?
