Trick or Treat

Monday night was Trick-or-Treat night in our town.

Em was joined by her cousins, Abby (a horse) and Ben (a gorilla).

Emily was a ballerina -

who wore a winter coat

(because it was cold and rainy all night)

and took a dive at the last turn
on the way onto our very own sidewalk

some tears, a little grass stain, and a scuffed up knee

but nothing a little band-aid couldn't fix.

Oh yeah-

nevermind the yellow gunk

all over her teeth

it's part of the loot she scored

...well that or she's taking the outfit

to a whole new level as

an out of work ballerina

with a lousy dental plan.

Still missing those top 2 teeth
but they're starting to make an appearance!

Fall Family Cookout

For the past several years, our family has gotten together each October for a fall cookout at my parents.  Occasionally my mom breaks out the old Halloween costumes that my sister and I used to wear...

The Great Pumpkin!

Tonight was pizza night... and family movie night... and viewing of "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown"... and carving our own pumpkins!

I was surprised that she was so
excited to get all yucky this year!

But she was a trooper!

And stuck it out until her pumpkin was done!

Then she even help me sort out some seeds
to roast tomorrow!

Tom's pumpkin... he free-handed this one!

...and this one!
(The cross that we saw on all the
Russian Orthodox churches in Kazakhstan!)

My pumpkin... think Light-Bright from when we were kids!
I used the flashlight on my cell to test
it out until I can buy another battery
for the light inside!

The Grand Masterpiece!
Emily's pumpkin!
She gutted it, drew all the parts and I simply cut them out for her!

Happy Halloween!  Be safe!

Trick or Treat!

Trick-or-Treat night was a family affair again this year.  My (Jenni's) dad's birthday was a few days before our town's trick-or-treat night so we invited the family over for the festivities and had a birthday dinner together after handing out our goodies.  Thanks to Aunt Shell for taking pictures!  We're glad she's a shutterbug or we wouldn't have pictures of a lot of our family events.  I usually get so busy with child-wrangling that I forget I have a camera along for the ride.

Emily's cousins, Abby and Ben, came over to walk the neighborhood with her.  There's nothing like following a butterfly, Sleeping Beauty and a skunk around town while they're collecting the goods!

Halloween Prep

I can't believe I just found Halloween pictures that we haven't posted here yet!  I'm just a few days late...

Grandma came over a couple of weeks prior to Halloween to help us decorate our pumpkins.  I decided to go a bit against the grain this year and not carve them.  I saw a few ideas in a magazine (maybe Better Homes and Gardens?) and ran with them.

With the aide of a hot glue gun and some odd and end craft supplies we had a decent run at some unique pumpkins this year!

EMILY'S PUMPKIN

Emily modeling her pumpkin....

EMILY WITH GRANDMA'S PUMPKIN

DADDY'S PUMPKIN... we "decorated" it so it would fit in
but he could modify it later if he wanted in on the action!

MY PUMPKIN...
Just goes to prove we shouldn't decorate pumpkins under the influence...
of PMS.   :-)

Happy Halloween Snow White!

This past Saturday was our community's Trick-or-Treat night and Emily has been looking forward to it for over a month. We surprised her with a Snow White dress and wig several weeks ago and she fell in love. We did some prep work to remind her that people would come to our house and we would give them candy. There would be some kids in funny masks and if there were scary faces, we just reminded her that they were just pretend and there were just kids under them.

Here's a look at the evening.

Ready to great her public...

At Emily's request, Nanny dressed up as the
"Apple Witch" and joined her for the evening.

It was a long, chilly night, but Emily had a blast!
She met a few scary folks early on and something
must have clicked a little later because she started
waving at them all and shouting, "Hi Funny Face!"
She got so comfortable that she nearly shouted,
"Hi Funny Face!" to a few folks who didn't even
have masks on. Awwwwwkward! :-)
But nothing a quick change of topic couldn't fix!

At the end of the night, Papa (aka The Prince)
decided to get in on the Snow White action
while sporting a little Buckeye fever...

Too funny, but a little scary. The bow
adds a nice touch I think.

Happy Halloween!

(Oh, and yes, Emily did get to go around to our neighbors,
but I think she actually preferred to hand out candy as opposed to raking it in!)
