Fall Family Cookout

For the past several years, our family has gotten together each October for a fall cookout at my parents.  Occasionally my mom breaks out the old Halloween costumes that my sister and I used to wear...

E, Me, My, Moe

One of the most frustrating (yet funniest) things we've tried to learn in a while...
This has taken us 3 days to get this far.

(Pardon the nap head!)

The Great Pumpkin!

Tonight was pizza night... and family movie night... and viewing of "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown"... and carving our own pumpkins!

I was surprised that she was so
excited to get all yucky this year!

But she was a trooper!

And stuck it out until her pumpkin was done!

Then she even help me sort out some seeds
to roast tomorrow!

Tom's pumpkin... he free-handed this one!

...and this one!
(The cross that we saw on all the
Russian Orthodox churches in Kazakhstan!)

My pumpkin... think Light-Bright from when we were kids!
I used the flashlight on my cell to test
it out until I can buy another battery
for the light inside!

The Grand Masterpiece!
Emily's pumpkin!
She gutted it, drew all the parts and I simply cut them out for her!

Happy Halloween!  Be safe!

Happy Birthday, Megan!

Yesterday we went to a birthday party for one of Emily's best friends.  We love the Millers.  We had so much fun and Emily loved playing the party games and hanging out with friends.

Pre-party: Instructing Daddy on how to make a special card for Megan.

We showed up about an hour late due to other commitments.
There were so many fun games.  Em was a bit hesitant to jump
in right at first but once she realized there were prizes involved
she dove in head first!

See what I mean?  Not afraid to get her face wet in ice cold water!
(These were awesome apples, by the way
...and were filled with prizes and candy!)

She got one!

The birthday girl, Megan, with one of her prizes!
(And a bad case of bloodshot eyeballs!)

Love that girl's style and fashion sense.

Present time with Evan, Megan and Emily!

Love this!  When things started to slow down, the
kids had the best time playing in the leftover straw pile!

Happy 6th birthday, Megan!  You rock!

You Smell Like... - OR - The Difference a Word Makes

I was leaning in this morning to buckle Em into her booster seat in the car.  As I was repositioning the seat belt, she informed me, "Mom, you smell like wipe."

"Wipe?"

"Yeah, you smell like wipe."

Well, you know me and you know exactly where my mind went when she said this.  As a friend told me today, she might as well have said, "Mom, you smell like butt."

But(t) she didn't.  She said I smelled like "wipe".

I sniffed my shirt to make sure I didn't have on some rank laundry scented shirt.  Nope.

"What do you mean I smell like wipe?"

"You know, Mom!  Wipe."  (She motions in a circle motion with her hand like she's washing the table down.)

"Oooohhhhhh.... I smell like a wipe?  Like a baby wipe?  Like a good smell?"

"Ye-ah."  (Right, it was 2 syllables - and said with the attitude of "Duh!")

So, apparently the powder fresh scent of my deodorant reminded her of baby wipes... not butts... and not baby wipes used on butts.

Phewwww.
